I graduated from Wood Tobe-Coburn not once, but twice! I first earned an associate degree from their collegiate secretarial program. Then, after life threw me some curves, I went back to Wood Tobe-Coburn to earn my medical assisting degree and pursue my new found passion for helping people.
From the moment I first walked through the Wood Tobe-Coburn doors, I felt like everyone was there to help me. The financial aid department walked me through the entire financial aid process, helped me with the applications, and answered all the questions I had about how I could make school affordable.
I also felt supported by my teachers. They all knew how to present the material so we could understand it. Wood Tobe-Coburn also taught me so many skills that other schools don’t teach as part of their medical assisting program, like how to be professional, how to give presentations, and even understanding the day-to-day operations of a medical office. In my current job, I interview externs so I see first hand the skills that students from other schools come in with. Many are unprepared and don’t know how to schedule patients, operate a medical computer system, or answer the phones professionally. They also haven’t had as much hands-on experience in clinical skills. It makes me realize just how well Wood Tobe-Coburn prepared me and what a quality program it is.
Both times that I graduated the placement department was there to support me and offer advice. I am very fortunate that I really like my job and have found a career where I know I’m making a difference. I value the relationships that I have made with the placement department and I know that I’ll be able to turn to them for guidance and support whenever I need them.
My advice to new Wood Tobe-Coburn students is to pay attention, use common sense, and study. School is the foundation for your career and you will be surprised to see how many ways you’ll be able to apply the skills you learn in school to things in your career. I’m so glad that Wood Tobe-Coburn was there for my education and I would tell everyone to consider Wood Tobe-Coburn if you are looking for a small school with personalized attention and a quality education.
